About Island Curio

Island Curio is an independent journal about Bali — specifically about the parts of it people actually have to choose between. Which region suits the trip. Whether a house is one building or three. How the water gets to a clifftop villa, and how many steps there are down to the one on the gorge.

We write about regions and building types rather than reviewing individual properties, because the villa market here turns over quickly and a review written eighteen months ago is often actively misleading. What does not change is the difference between the Bukit and Ubud, or between an estate and a cluster.

What we cover

The Explorer’s Guide for regional orientation. Remote Sanctuaries for the quiet valleys and what they cost you in convenience. Coastal Collectives for houses built to hold a group. Island Life & Lore for the older Bali underneath all of it.

How we work

No sponsored coverage, no commission, no booking desk. Where a place is named it is because the sentence needed a real example. Our full method is set out in the curation philosophy.

Corrections

Roads change, restaurants close, quiet valleys get hotels. If something here is out of date, tell us at [email protected] and we will amend it rather than quietly delete it.
